Remember my name

I’m stacking clean spoons in their spot in the silverware drawer, thinking of supper. She comes and twirls. Lands beside me.

“I fixed something Mama.”

“Mmm. Hmmm,” I mumble, still unloading the silverware.

“I put it around my neck. See?”

I turn and look. It’s one of those name tag badge lanyards.

Then she says, “You know how you say, What’s your name?

I smile at her, recognizing my slow mind and the thumbing through of five children’s names during a frustrated, exasperated moment.

“Yes,” I answer, still smiling.

“Well, I fixed this! And I wrote my name right here. Right here. So you won’t forget my name.”

I smile again then laugh at myself. I hug her and tell her how smart she is. She says, very proud of her accomplishment, “I can wear it right here where you can see it!”

So I explain that parents don’t really ever forget their precious children’s names. It’s just a failing of a mother’s mind and mouth to match at the same time. Later I tell my husband and he and I laugh over Bill Cosby’s comedy routine.

Ah, parenting.

And Father Day blessings!

This man of mine lives the true comedy with us. The real life day-to-day. He makes us laugh. Just plays. Just enjoys.

He knows how to answer. Has the answers. He endures.

Daddy blessings we count.

And the every day…

  • big boy giggles that shake the bed
  • little boy chuckles while ‘swing me high’
  • rain, rain, rain, rain, oh drenching rain!
  • A fun family Father’s Day.

LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:9

How about you. Has your child ever worn a name tag for you?

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children – preschoolers to middle schoolers. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

Love it! I can relate, sometimes I just go down the list! Bill Cosby Himself is quoted often in our house!

  2. LOL! We love that, too.
It is so nice to see your lovely blessings. Give him a Father’s Day blessing from us.
