Fast Food for Slow Sundays: Nana’s Famous Chocolate Pound Cake

Growing up, this cake was the one at family gatherings. Doesn’t that speak the loudest about a dessert? It’s a pound cake. A chocolate pound cake. The icing makes it a showcase (and it’s what us children wanted to sneak a bite of as we ran by –  because it tastes just like fudge!)

: Nana’s Famous Chocolate Pound Cake

  1. Cake:
  2. 2 sticks butter
  3. 1/2 cup shortening
  4. 3 cups sugar
  5. 5 eggs
  6. 3 cups flour
  7. 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
  8. 1 tsp baking powder
  9. 1 tsp vanilla
  10. 1/4 tsp salt
  11. 1 cup milk
  12. Frosting:
  13. 6 Tbs butter
  14. 1/2 cup cocoa
  15. 4 Tbs milk
  16. 1 box confectioner’s sugar

  1. Cake:
  2. Cream sugar, butter and shortening.
  3. Add vanilla.
  4. Sift dry ingredients together.
  5. Alternately add the sifted dry ingredients, eggs and milk.
  6. Beat well on low speed.
  7. Pour into a greased Bundt or tube pan.
  8. Bake one hour at 350 then 10 minutes at 325.
  9. Frosting:
  10. Melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat.
  11. Add vanilla and one box confectioner’s sugar.
  12. Reduce heat to low and stir until smooth.
  13. (Nana’s note: may have to add a little milk but be careful not to put too much in)
  14. Spread on top of cake.

Cooking time: 1 hour(s) 10 minute(s)

Make it on Saturday to enjoy on Sunday. Serve with a scoop of ice cream.

    It wouldnt need to be a sunday for me to try that, it looks pretty special. I think I might give it a go for my sisters birthday in a few weeks.
