I LOVE LOVE LOVE the maps as window shades!!!! We are currently converting our 2 car garage into another room and will be setting up school in there as part office, part school room, part playroom. We have 2 windows on the wall where the desks are planned to be so it should work perfectly! (If I can get the Mister to agree). Thanks for sharing and I will certainly be following you! Great ideas!

Timez Attack is a cool game. Unfortunately, my kids didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought they would. They didn’t enjoy the concept of “fighting” (Ogres and such) and being “punished” (their words, not mine) for getting the answer wrong.
We now use MathRider – it gets by without the “fighting” and gives the kids more math facts practice in a shorter space of time. The game is not free, but there is a free 7-day full-featured trial. website: mathrider.com.

I use to do once a month freezer cooking too! And chicken packets are a fave here!! The only thing I have a boy with a dairy allergy so I use mayo instead of the cream cheese for his.

Thanks for the reminder about SOTW Cindy! Yes, at this age we actually just listened to the SOTW cds as we drove to and fro. I was introduced to Tapestry of Grace when my eldest was going into her 4th grade year (So I had a 4th grader, 3rd, K and a baby). That was perfect for us and we’ve been blessed by Tapestry ever since. Now my children will be 9th, 8th, 5th, 1st and Pre-K and Tapestry is perfect for us.

I’ve loved Tapestry of Grace, but I don’t think I’d recommend it for Kindergarten, even though we used it successfully. Instead, we’re doing four years of The Story of the World, then we’ll get back to Tapestry in my oldest’s fifth grade year. SotW gives a good overview and has lots of good books, costs less, and lets you ease into the classical mode of education instead of jumping in head first. (This is a pretty recent decision of mine. I’d planned to do Year 2 with my 3rd grader next year with a co-op, but we’re just going to proceed with SotW. It’s easier, and we need more focus on the 3 R’s right now!)

It has been a wonderful week! And, like all homeschoolers, we’ll keep on learning through the summer. Enjoying Handbook of Nature Study summer outdoor hour challenges, some still doing math, practicing with Timez Attack, reading, reading. VBS. PE – Hodgepodge swim team Christmas in July, Camp Hodgepodge. But – after this week – we are taking a break! We finished up our official 180 days a while ago since we start back in July. (Breaks here and there throughout the year plus plenty of time in December to focus on advent learning, another drama troupe play and more wonderful Christmas performances! You got me going talking about year ’round learning, Ellen!

Wrapping up the year — excitement! It looks as if it was a wonderful week. Congratulations to all performers! Can’t wait to hear about your summer reading.

We are not yet finished here — two or three more weeks to go. We’ve almost reached 180 days, but have more work to do in our books, so we’re plowing on. I’m going to spread some of it out over the summer.

What a busy, busy week it has been! Glorious homeschool play with the two “old” pro actors in “Jungle Book,” the blessing earlier in the week of the children’s Spring Sing program at church…what more could one ask for?? I know: everyone can sleep late next week!

The rain for a couple of days this week was SO nice. We noticed our Cosmos, African Daisies and Forget-Me-Nots grew quite a bit… my daughter planted seeds in pots a few weeks ago and has been watching them intently. I’m also waiting for the Gardenias to start blooming.

There’s so much beauty if we just remember to LOOK. What a beautiful post, Tricia.
