Balancing the needs of an age range of children is always something I am faced with. Back in the days of toddlers to pre-teens, we hit a bump in our homeschool math journey. Well, not just a bump but a puddle of tears and a pile of frustration most mornings. So here is the story of just how we came to love Teaching Textbooks.
See, not only do we have an age range of children, we have a variety of learning styles. That learning includes me – continuing education for the homeschool mama! Well, math just was not getting done in between in the diaper changes and language arts lessons. So I asked a group of trusted, fellow homeschool mamas. One of my friends, Kerri, said, “Teaching Textbooks.” She had recently made the switch and it had changed their math mornings for the better.
Calm the crazy. This may not look calm – more like a Hodgepodge – but I'm so grateful for Teaching Textbooks. It is how we get math done with so many ages and grades. I'm sitting through lessons with my younger two and checking in on my older two. But the grading? Done for me✔️ Each grade has just the right amount of humor interjected to make math fun while we are getting it done. I've found Teaching Textbooks is perfect for my auditory learners, great for my visual and kinesthetic learner too 📚My friend, Kerri, suggested it all those years ago. I'm SO glad she did! We tried the free placement tests. And now we've been through every level they offer and sent one of the Hodgepodge off to college🎉You might want to try it too? How We Came to Love Teaching Textbooks
- Frugal! The price divided by five children using it through the years? Cheap-o.
- Self-grading. (Especially in those upper grades – thank you!)
- It’s just HOW math can get done with so many children – different ages and grades.
A few highlights from across the ages this homeschool year…
"This is SCARY!!" she said as she sat down and put the CD in. Then Lesson 1 of Algebra I @teachingtextbooks literally opens and starts with, "A lot of people are scared of Algebra." My 9th grader and I laughed so hard! Thanks, Teaching Textbooks. I love that we can laugh with math. 💙 #HodgepodgeHomeschool #homeschool #homeschoolmath #homeschoolhighschool #TeachingTextbooks
I'm SO glad Teaching Textbooks is helping my senior with Pre-Calculus! And with this level we have now officially used all levels from Math 3 and up — that Teaching Texbooks offers. Wow! 🎉 <celebratory dance> Thank you for being such a big part of our homeschool and helping meet the needs of the age range and learning styles of our Hodgepodge! 📚 Do you need math help too? "Yay, it's a quiz!" -3rd grader. Isn't it great he loves quiz days?? (Thanks Teaching Textbooks!) It's math in the afternoon for some of our Hodgepodge today. We've been acting like homeschoolers and running around getting groceries, Thanksgiving items, Christmas stamps, unloading groceries, going to piano lessons… So I read our Anatomy lesson at lunch and now it is math and language arts time. 📚 Also, it's a blessing to build our own schedule on busy days like this, don't you agree? . . . . . #HodgepodgeHomeschool #TeachingTextbooks #homeschool #homeschoolrocks #homeschoollife #homeschoolmath #buildyourownschedule #homeschoolschedule #1000gifts #homeschoolblessings #whathomeschoollookslike #homeschoollookslikethis
I love curriculum, tools that help us get stuff done and have some fun. Here is more on Our Experience with Teaching Textbooks and just how we use it. And an encouraging article on 8 Ways to Conquer Math Phobia.
You should try a placement test and explore Teaching Textbooks too.
We have now officially used all levels available from Math 3 to Pre-Caculus. Wow!
