Leave room for God

I encourage you to find the balance for your family if it seems like your days are filled with too much uncertainty and stress.  Structure is important, just remember to leave room for God.

Do we plan every minute out, or get up in the morning and see where the day takes us?  I will tell you that my natural inclination would be the later.  I am that artsy free spirit, an adult with ADD if you will. I think that by getting up without a plan, I am living by faith. Less plan = more faith.   However, I

The habit of the table

Eating together as a family is a very important part of being a family. Maybe we should look at it as an honor to gather around the table. God himself is preparing a table at which we will gather one day. Let us build the habit of the table.

I have heard many women over the years tell me how they hate to cook or they can’t cook. Some see it as just another chore to be done during the day. Sometimes I get to feeling like that. When I start thinking that way, I have to remind myself of the words of the apostle Paul who said, “Take every thought captive.” In reality,

Pocketful of Sunshine

Right now, as I am typing this, there is a war going on above me. No, I’m not referring to spiritual warfare.  This is in the physical realm of my son’s bedroom.  There’s is more thumping and banging than a floor should be able to withstand.  Before I stomp over to the stairs and  ‘call’ up to the offenders,  I refer to the ring of

Searching for Joy

You may be in a tough season of life right now, but in the midst of life’s trials, one can always be looking, searching for joy.

Hello, there!  I’m back!  I’ve missed being part of this space the last couple months, and I’m excited to join you all again.  My family and I have successfully and safely moved across the country, and seen God’s gracious provision for our family every step of the way.  Rather than tell the stories all over again, feel free to check out my personal blog to

Practical Prayer

Practical prayer - a guide for simple prayers as you go about your day and finding freedom in making prayer the foundation of your day.

The community helpers puzzle. Its pieces dumped in the floor, again. I find myself frustrated, again. Frustrated to pick up the pieces and frustrated we were all sick. Frustrated we couldn’t get out and help the victims of recent flooding. Practical Prayer But the Lord calmly gave me an answer, in His patient way. As I was picking up each puzzle piece, He said, “Pray.”

The Habit of Hymns

I have an old hymnal – one passed down. I’m not sure how it came to be on my end table. But that hymnal is helping me develop the habit of hymns.

I have an old hymnal – one passed down. I’m not sure how it came to be on my end table. But I’m sure glad it is there. Heaven came down and glory filled my soul, When at the cross the Savior made me whole… I’ve always loved the old hymns. Like many, I was fortunate to be raised on them. They are a part

The Habit of Giving Thanks

Anyone who has ever opened the pages of a Bible knows that God wants us to be thankful in all circumstances. The Bible is full of references that instruct us to be thankful. One of the more popular verses that comes to mind is from Philippians. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known
