Fall Atlanta Homeschool Days and Field Trips

We are keeping up the habit of enjoying local spots – both for learning and fun! Here are a few that caught our attention and we want you to know about too!

Atlanta Homeschool Days and Field Trips

On our field trip to Atlanta History Center earlier this week we got to see Civil War life in action at the historic Smith family farm.

Atlanta History Center

Fall Folklife Festival at the Atlanta History Center – Saturday, September 27th, 10:30 am – 4:00 pm. The heart of the festival takes place at the Atlanta History Center’s 1860s Smith Family Farm where festival-goers of all ages find enjoyable, engaging activities that provide a thorough explanation of the fall harvest and preparation for the colder months ahead. Demonstrations include blacksmithing and woodworking with special guests to discuss the crafts of meat smoking, beekeeping, and large scale organic farming. To complete the festival experience, enjoy live musical performances while indulging in delicious local food trucks. This year we will also conduct a photo contest. American Encounters: Anglo-American Portraiture in an Era of Revolution
September 28, 2014 through January 18, 2015
The High, Musée du Louvre, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the Terra Foundation for American Art present the third installation in their four-year collaboration focusing on the history of American art. This exhibition provides a close look at five portraits that demonstrate how portraiture style evolved in the late 18th and early 19th centuries as American and European painters were influenced by each other. The installation’s five works, which include three portraits of George Washington, have never been displayed together previously.

Cézanne and the Modern: Masterpieces of European Art from the Pearlman Collection
October 25, 2014 through January 11, 2015
This major traveling exhibition organized by the Princeton University Art Museum features 50 modern masterworks, many of which have rarely been exhibited. The exhibition offers visitors the chance to view exceptional masterpieces by Cézanne, van Gogh, Manet, Modigliani, Degas, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec and others. The works featured in the exhibition showcase the extraordinary vision of Henry Pearlman (1895-1974), a modest American entrepreneur who amassed an astonishing collection of modern art from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including perhaps the greatest collection of watercolors by Cézanne outside of France.

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.
