A wonderfully relaxing habit I have fully taken advantage of this week of Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a quick afternoon nap. Just five to 10 minutes are such a help! This is a habit to enjoy after Afternoon Quiet Time is established. (I’m keeping up the habit of sharing a helpful habit on Fridays. This one from February of last year. Some of you have seen this before but have you taken my grandmother’s advice yet?…)
Some of the best advice my grandmother ever gave me. Yes, young children need a nap. But did you know that mothers need one too? “You just need to put your feet up for 10 minutes. Even if you don’t go to sleep. As long as you relax for 10 to 15 minutes, you’ll be able to face the crazy hours.”
So I have taken my grandmother’s advice ever since I became a mama. As much as I can.
Now, with children in the house, your quiet time habit must be established. Yes, before embarking on the habit of napping, my five are in their own quiet time spots. (Ideas here)
Once children are secured…
- Find a comfortable spot.
- Put your feet up.
- Put your head back.
- Close your eyes.
- And relax.
- Really. Relax.
- Just 10-15 minutes.
Don’t fret. The laundry will still be there. Trust me.

The rest of our week? A short, afternoon nap was just a tiny part of our days this week. We went on a Big Apple Adventure at VBS in the mornings (see all the fun crafts on our mantle?) and played in the sprinkler or plastic pool in the afternoons.
- Yesterday afternoon we enjoyed a Blueberries Pastel Tutorial.
- Summertime Encouragement: I sure enjoyed this post at Passionate Purposeful Parenting on Summer Plans. Made me want to schedule up some pj days while I can!
- Favorite quote from VBS week came from Littlest Girl at tucking in time. She rubbed her brow and said,
“I have to check my eyebrows every now and then. Sometimes I have Ritz crackers up there.”
Thanks to our weekly wrap hostess, Kris, of Weird Unsocialized Homeschoolers. Be sure to click over and see her before and after weight loss photos and check out what others are doing at the start of summer.
How was your week? Did YOU get a nap?
