How to Make Nana’s Apple Pie and See the World

There are plenty of different apple pie versions out there but this is my mama’s – Nana’s Apple Pie Recipe. The one that she wrote in the red and white checked I’m Writing My Own Cookbook.

How to Make Nana’s Apple Pie and See the World

A store-bought pie crust or mix-it-in-the-pan crust make this as easy as Fudge Pie. But, if you make an apple pie…

…it just might get eaten so quickly it’s hard to get a picture of a slice on a plate!

: Nana’s Apple Pie

 Pie filling:

  1. 4-5 crisp apples
  2. 1/3 cup sugar
  3. 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  4.  Pie topping:
  5. 3/4 cup flour
  6. 1/2 cup sugar
  7. 3/4 stick butter (can chop butter with knife and fold in)

  1. Peel apples if you like, I usually leave the peels on.
  2. Cut and slice apples into small chunks.
  3. Place apples into store bought pie crust (or mix your own pie crust in the pan with this recipe).
  4. Mix sugar and cinnamon together and pour over apples.
  5. Mix together pie topping.
  6. Sprinkle mixture over pie.
  7. Bake @ 400 for 40 minutes.

Then, if you make an apple pie, you just might have to pull out the book to read along with it: How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World.

Then a whole homeschool unit study might take place, including geography, math, art and vocabulary.

But mainly some cooking fun!

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

One of our favorite picture books! I still have to read it every time we bake an apple pie:)

I like the topping on yours instead of an upper crust.

Oh yeah, we’ll be trying it this week. Thanks!

I agree – this topping is easier I think – more cobbler like (which is how Hodgepodgedad likes it). And you nailed it – How to make an apple pie book is definitely a must read this time of year (and baking an apple pie to go with it).
