Letting Go

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

I’ve read this passage many times and it is one of my favorites. But I think that the verses that follow give us the how.  How do we let go of that anxiety and take hold of the peace of God? So often I think I take my fears to the Father, believe that I’m trusting Him, but then moments later I let my mind get all wrapped up in them again.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9

There are times that each of us face uncertainty, doubt and fear. It is easy to let that uncertainty consume our hearts and minds and rob us of the joy that God wants for us. Let me encourage you, if you are walking through a difficult spot, take your worries to God and leave them there. Let go of that anxiety and replace those thoughts with things that are true and right and lovely.

    Beautiful! I remember driving to work years ago, going over and over verses 8-9. Thanks for pointing us to true, lovely and praiseworthy.

    I love the put off/put on. We can tell ourselves not to do something (like worry), but that is only half the solution. Wonderful choices for verses!
