Making Memories This Fall

Our nature studies are intertwined with wonderful memories with family this past month. Maybe that’s what makes fall a favorite for me. Leaf trips, tromps through my grandmother’s woods, and just noticing changes right in our own backyard. The cooler weather, brilliant blue skies and gorgeous tree color make a beautiful combination.

When Grandma and Grandpa were here early last month, we took a trip over to the highest point in Alabama. These rolling hills have called us for over a decade now. It’s a perfect spot for fabulous fall color. And easy as a round trip day destination.

Close by, we can visit my grandmother, Mama Ann. We always have to walk through her woods. This spot, where littlest girl stands, holds special memories for me. Many a time I played in that creek. And now to see her there.

I love everything about this photo.

And right here in our own yard, the trees took their turns changing. Spreading our their colors over several weeks. All we had to do was step outside and notice.

A nature walk at the local park with our homeschool group. Playing prey and predator.

Then, at Thanksgiving we trekked to the north Georgia hills. Took in new vistas, walks…

…flowers.

Getting outside changes perspective, builds memories. Opens the door to new discoveries.

It’s a new month and a new newsletter is available at Handbook of Nature Study – for free! We especially love the nature study grid the newsletter includes. Easy and fun prompts for getting outside and enjoying December. This month’s topic? Weather.

How have you been making memories this fall?

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

Your images really do tell the story….love the last one a bunch! I just am so happy to see how your family weaves it all together and how your love of nature just pokes its way into all aspects of your life. What a wonderful example!
