Mama on Vacation: Surf and Turf

This whole week I’m sharing a series from the 2010 archives. Oldies but goodies. Because my old iWeb site is soon going away and I wanted to share these posts with you. And because, to me, with school wrapped up, I feel the pull of the ocean. Summer always means beach. So come along for some virtual seashore. Whether you are by the surf or on your own turf. I hope you collect a few tips from this week’s trip…

The best thing that you can give your children, next to good habits, is good memories. ~Barbara Johnson

My mother always told me that a get-away wasn’t a real vacation for a grown woman with children in tow. I used to really begrudge that supposed wisdom. But over the years I’ve found a way to turn it around to the positive.

Today I’m presenting a vacation package for everyone – all inclusive. These ideas can be implemented for the every day. Take what you need. Whether you are near the surf or right on your own turf. Just snippets of time are all a mama gets on vacation. All a mother gets any day of the week. But if you know that ahead of time, you can make the most of it. And if you make the most of it, you will, in turn, build beautiful memories for your family.

Tomorrow, I’ll be back and sharing two lists: Top 10 Ideas for Summer Fun (plenty of beach ideas!) and Top 10 Favorite Websites for Homeschooling. Then we’ll continue on in this series the rest of this week.

The Mama on Vacation Series:

  • Part One: Surf and Turf – tips for snippets of vacation at home or away
  • Part Two: Top Ten Tips for Summer Fun
  • Part Three: On the Road
  • Part Four: Save Your Sanity
  • Part Five: Planning and Goal Setting

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

Happy Vacation!! I do have one question, which goes to socialization. After a year of homeschooling, we have had fun, made new friends, and enjoyed it, but how do you help your kids make lifelong friends? I want our kids to feel that they will have a strong, if not large, group of friends to play with regularly without feeling insecure about not seeing them after only a few months of knowing them? It sounds like a no brainers, but I am still worried.

Tabitha – are you in a homeschool group? If not, I would highly recommend it. This will give you and your family a wonderful base of like-minded friends. We are blessed with a wonderful homeschool group and we get together for weekly park days. Just fun times together at the park. We also have get togethers for certain age groups. This past year my daughter had a great time with the middle school girls. We also have life-long friends at church. Children my children see each week – often more than once since we participate in choir and other activities. Pray about it and the Lord will point the way for you. I hope that encourages you.
