Food is fun this time of year, wouldn’t you say? While we’ll be enjoying simple suppers and slow cooker meals a great deal, I also have special meals and appetizers we enjoy this time of year. I’ll follow the daily plan similar to last year’s meal plan to 2010.
Cooking fun: Of course, the best time for cooking fun is at Christmas! It was this time last year that Nana gave the children the Cook Box. We will be doing all or most of this:
• Reindeer Mix
• Southern Living Two Step Pound Cake
• Sugar Cookies
• Sunbutter® Cookies + kisses
• Microwave Fudge
• Hot Chocolate Mix, Gourmet
Christmas Eve – we have something simple like Pimento Cheese by Mama Ann. Before bed, I prep the Egg Casserole so I can just stick it in the oven after I turn the coffee pot on (casserole bubbles while coffee brews). Grits go in the crock pot. See Simple Christmas Morning Breakfast.
Christmas Day – baked egg casserole, crock pot grits, cinnamon rolls from the tube, turkey bacon. It’s how I am able to avoid the kitchen and enjoy the early morning with my family.
Christmas Night – Yumbos by my brother, Chip, a tradition started last year. I bake a Southern Living Two Step Pound Cake or may do a Chocolate Chip Cake.
New Years Eve – since there is usually football plus all the New Years festivities to watch, we have a supper of appetizers. We’ll enjoy some sort of fun activity with the children like a game night by the fire. Plus a sampling from this list:
• The glory dip
• Mexican roll ups
