The Many Resources of Homeschooling

I’ve just tucked in Littlest Girl and am about to close her door. “Wait! Mama!” she cries urgently. “Tomorrow, can we study the brain? Because I just need to know about what all is up there.” Yes…

The Many Resources of #Homeschool www.hodgepodge.me

(Resources pictured above: laptop, Tapestry of Grace Writing Aids, high school student planner, high school Apologia marine biology text and another high school planner.)

And so we do. We study the brain. Why not? Yes we are thoroughly enjoying our Apologia marine biology studies. But we have the resources for learning about the brain. And didn’t we just see a shark brain at the Georgia Aquarium a few weeks ago?

~This post contains affiliate links to resources we have used and loved for years – and those we highly recommend! Please see our disclosure policy.

On that same couch  – Pete the Cat reading fun and these two! “I love my red shoes, I love my red shoes… because it’s all good…” #1000gifts (one of the many books in our shelf over the family room couch and the IKEA shelves we use as end tables.)

Resources for Multiple Ages

The many resources of homeschool www.hodgepodge.me

1. Admiring the sun (we hadn’t seen it in a while!) | 2. Learning about gravity with our Winter Games study plus a little history from Abraham Lincoln’s World | 3. The big kids in action – 6th grade Teaching Textbooks, 10th grade marine biology and 9th grade Teaching Textbook | 4. Sisters at the piano

The next afternoon I saw the stack of resources we are blessed with – right there in the middle of the family room couch. And it struck me how blessed we are. Blessed with overflowing resources for learning.

SQUILT Tchaichovsky's Romeo & Juliet www.hodgepodge.me

Fine Arts Studies

SQUILT Music Appreciation curriculum and Harmony Fine Arts. This week Mary Prather of Homegrown Learners and I shared some free music and art lessons. The children and I enjoyed Mary’s free SQUILT lesson on Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet earlier in the week. (of course, using the pdf download on the laptop) We already had a book on Russian composer Tchaikovsky because of the suggested resources in our Winter Games Olympics unit studies (<– another pdf download). So Middle Girl pulled it out.

John James Audubon studies www.hodgepodge.me

Artist John James Audubon – books from the library thanks to Harmony Fine Arts studies (another pdf curriculum resource!).

Library books, Library books, Library books

We, like most homeschoolers, have a huge appreciation of the library. Some weeks we are there so often that the children wonder what the librarians might think.  I figure – they are librarians and they love books as much as we do.

Internet Streaming of Creation Debate

What great discussions we had during and after the Ken Ham and Bill Nye debate. We had the privilege of hearing Ken Ham at our local GHEA convention not too long ago. And Hodgepodgedad has taught Bible studies with Answers in Genesis resources. Of course you know of our love of AiG homeschool curriculum!

brain science studies www.hodgepodge.me

And see? We did learn about the brain! We pulled out the anatomy book from the science bookshelf and we read all about it.

Many thanks to our Friday hostesses!

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

Having a variety of resources and the flexability to learn what we want, when we want is one of my favorite things about homeschooling!

We really wish to have an English library here. Even just proper library is not available in our city. I love SQUILT a lot. We use usborne most of the time as it is the one which is available.
