The Power of Paint with Water

I have kept paint with water books on hand since my eldest was in the high chair. It’s a simple project to pull out.

For the littlest ones up to adults. (I still love to sit and paint a picture.) Often, painting helps beat the mid-morning fussiness or the afternoon grouchiness.

It’s just water. Place a paper towel underneath your picture for easy clean up. Empty pimento jars, baby food jars or bathroom paper cups work well for holding the water for dipping.

But the best part is – it is easy to say yes.

Educational experts might agree that using a paint brush is good practice in small motor skills.

I say paint with water is simply powerfully fun.

Do you have paint with water books at your house so you can say yes too?

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.

I love this post! What a super idea. I had forgotten about those great little paint books. But, alas, where do I find them. I was at Michael’s today and asked if they had any … and they didn’t. Where do you get your supply.

    I love saying “yes.”

You’re so full of great ideas.

Kellie – that is sometimes the trick. I have found them at Walmart, at bookstores like Barnes and Noble at Target. You just have to keep your eyes open while you are out. And when you find them snatch up a bunch. Because it tends to vary. Sometimes they are just a $1 like the one pictured about, sometimes more expensive – like at the bookstore. We’ve even asked grandparents to give them as birthday gifts!

I love these too. But, they are getting hard to find. You can use water and food coloring on copy paper. Quick and easy. I have heard you can do this and let the “paint” dry and then give your child a paint brush and water, but I have never done it.

Hey Kari – They truly are hit and miss so you just have to keep you eye out for them. I’ve found them in the children’s section at Barne & Noble and at the $1 store. Just never know where they might be.
