Yeses of Christmas

I said yes. Yes to a Christmas get together. Yes to going to the party. Yes to baking. Yes to wrapping.
All the flurry of the early December weeks were finished when I heard the words I’d feared all along. “Mama, I don’t feel good.” High fever, sleep during the day, no appetite. Barely drinking. All uncharacteristic of energetic girl.

Gatorade. Ibuprofen. Tissues. Saline spray. I type them all on the list. “My tummy hurts, Mama.” Two down now. Maybe it’s just a 24 hr bug.

So the yeses to parties turn to “yes, I’ll get it for you.” And “yes, just rest.” Yes, you really should drink, sweet girl.”

No party. No Sunday school this week. But tears. Hand washing. Sanitizing.
Instead I say yes to coloring pages and the Sunday box. When eldest girl comes in pale, wane, feverish, I say “yes, you can watch that.”

I say, “yes, I’ll get it for you, next.” And I count…
1. we made it through weeks of practices – feeling well! – and enjoyed so many performances, celebrations with only one bump
2. piano recital and Christmas cheer.
3. we can still bake Christmas cookies.
4. a boy who keeps the fire going in the fireplace.
5. Christmas movies.
6. Christmas cards in the mail from friends and family – all over our fridge.
7. oh the anticipation of Bartholomew’s Passage each night – and knowing there are only days left.

2152. Jesse Tree devotionals and ornaments filling in.

2153. filling in a holiday menu plan (free download from Org Junkie) in hopes that everyone may even be well for Christmas!
2154. Yes! Soon it will be Christmas Day!

Trust in the Lord and do what is good. Psalm 37:3

Before I shaped you in the womb, I knew all about you. Before you saw the light of day, I had holy plans for you. Jeremiah 1:5a The Message

About Hodgepodgemom

Tricia faces a daily dose of chaos homeschooling five children. The biggest lesson she’s learned? At the end of the day – when the dishes are put away and the children are tucked in bed – truly what matters is each child’s relationship with the Lord. Raising children is a God-given privilege and, folks, the time is short.
