Evernote App

Have you ever wished for a note taking application that would work with all of your digital devices?  That would automatically synchronize your notes between computers, smartphones, tablets, and laptops?

What if that same application could also be used to make notes from web page clippings, audio notes, photos and videos?

Meet Evernote.

I have used many note taking applications on & off through the years.  None has been as easy to manage as Evernote.  I can make a new note on the Windows or Mac  computer, edit it on the iPad, and view it on my iPhone.

Evernote functions as a digital file cabinet.  You can create multiple “notebooks” into which you can create notes.  The notes can be text, photos, audio files, and many other file types.

Here’s how it works: you sign up for the Evernote service (free) at Evernote.com.  You can use it as a web-browser based application, or download the customized  Windows or Mac application.  Evernote also has apps for a wide variety of other devices, iPhone, iPad, Android, Palm, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile.  The free version of the service allows you to upload 60MB of data per month.  For folks who need more than that, $45/yr. gets you 1GB per month of data upload.

I have used Evernote to store a variety of items, from to-do lists, to family grocery shopping lists, to the standard menu for the family at the Chick-Fil-A drive thru.  What sets Evernote apart from other note taking apps?  We can create a grocery list at home.  I can go to the grocery store to pick up the items on the list.  But, wait!  We forgot to add an important item before I left.  My wife, Tricia, can add the forgotten item from the comfort of home, knowing that within a minute or two that forgotten item will appear on the list displayed on my iPhone.

Evernote has been a great help with keeping up with information.  Anyone who need a versatile note taking application capable of synching notes between a variety of devices–letting them keep lists, photos, office documents, and audio files in one place–should give it a try.
